Software Architecture & Engineering –
Quality and Performance as Standard

Fast and efficient: customized software solutions with the highest quality and performance – without compromise. With my M. Sc. in mathematics and a focus on computer science, I combine both worlds perfectly. Well-designed software is future-proof and saves maintenance and refactoring costs in the long term.

Software Architecture

As with building a house, a well thought-out architecture is the foundation for stability, maintainability and future-proofing software. From the code structure and the choice of tech stack to interface design and system communication – a good architecture creates order, reduces technical debt and forms the basis for high-performance and scalable systems.

Software Engineering

A good architecture is only of value if it is implemented consistently. This is about concrete implementation: technologies must be used sensibly, technical requirements must be mapped correctly and robust interfaces must be developed. Clean code, consistent style and reliable test coverage through unit tests are just as important as an understanding of the technical domain.

Business Process Modelling

Business processes are more than just procedures – they are the backbone of every business requirement. Targeted modeling allows processes to be designed efficiently, transparently and leanly. This creates a valuable link between business understanding and technical architecture. A clearly modeled process landscape is the key to effective and comprehensible software solutions.

Business Process Automation

Efficiency is created where processes are automated – with clearly defined rules, interfaces and workflows. A high degree of automation reduces manual effort and increases process quality. In many industries – such as dark processing in private health insurance – process automation is a critical success factor for scalability and performance.

Data Analysis

Big data is omnipresent – but real added value is only created through targeted analysis. It’s not just about collecting data, but also about learning from it. With a feel for structures, correlations and relevance, data-based decisions can be made and business processes optimized in a targeted manner. Sound data analysis creates transparency – and competitive advantages.

Data Modelling

The data model is the structural basis of every application – especially for complex business processes. Only a clearly thought-out data model ensures that information is in the right place and is processed correctly. This applies in particular to interfaces and so-called DTOs (Data Transfer Objects), where an intelligent structure not only enables efficiency, but also maintainability and flexibility.

Performance Tweaks

A system is only as fast as its slowest part. The challenge is to identify precisely this bottleneck and optimize it in a targeted manner. Small adjustments with a big impact are often enough – just like the butterfly effect. Thanks to my specialization in high-performance computing, I know the levers that cost performance – and I know how to use them to get more out of existing resources.

AI

AI has long been more than just hype – it is reality. From automation and decision support to process optimization: AI can deliver enormous added value if it is used correctly. This requires a deep understanding of the underlying models, a precise database and clear target definitions. Properly trained and sensibly integrated, it not only replaces decision trees in the source code, but also creates intelligent, adaptive systems.

About alpha architect

alpha architect is an independent one-man business specializing in IT consulting and software architecture, with a particular focus on the insurance industry. As a service provider, I offer companies, particularly in the private health insurance (PHI) sector, customized consulting and support in the further development of their IT processes and systems. My aim is to support insurance companies in the successful migration of legacy systems, the improvement of processes and the architecture of software solutions – always with a view to efficiency, future viability and scalability. With my extensive expertise in consulting for standard software solutions and my in-depth knowledge of the specific requirements of health insurance, I help companies to bring their IT systems up to date and prepare them for future challenges.

A particular area of alpha architect’s expertise lies in automated service billing and digital invoice verification. The aim is to maximize the dark processing rate in order to increase your efficiency and gain a competitive advantage. Through the targeted use of modern technologies such as AI, containers, cloud technologies and the latest Java (enterprise) versions, I help to transform IT systems and future-proof companies. I combine in-depth expertise with a hands-on approach to develop solutions that meet your specific requirements.

With alpha architect, I offer you trustworthy, independent and customized consulting that effectively advances your IT projects and supports you on the path to digital transformation. I look forward to optimizing your IT processes together and accompanying you on the way to an efficient, future-proof IT infrastructure.

About me – Software engineering by conviction

Learned from the ground up – my name is Marcel Sachtleben. Even during my mathematics studies with a focus on computer science at the University of Ulm, I dealt intensively with the fundamentals of IT. Both my Bachelor’s and Master’s theses were dedicated to the topic of high-performance computing. The aim was to get the maximum performance out of given hardware – especially for computationally intensive applications such as numerical methods.

The challenge was to transfer mathematical algorithms to processors (CPUs) in such a way that they make optimum use of cache, registers and other resources. The focus was on a pragmatic, scientifically sound approach: comprehensible algorithms, clean code in modern C++, and targeted optimizations only where they bring measurable benefits.
The result: 97% of the performance of the Intel MKL – with transparent steps and maintainable code. This principle is part of my professional DNA: getting 90% with reasonable effort instead of relying on the last few percent, which are usually expensive – not only in terms of time, but also in terms of maintainability and clarity. An approach that not only makes sense technically, but also economically.

After completing my studies, I worked in software development and test automation in a SaaS company with a focus on logistics, which eventually led me to the insurance industry. First as an external consultant in an IT service company for standard software, then later in an insurance company itself – as a software developer, system manager, architect and technical co-designer of a major project.

Why alpha architect?

Several aspects led me into self-employment:

The explorer.
The IT world fascinates me – especially the insurance industry, but other sectors also offer exciting challenges. Cross-company insights and experience can usually only be gained through frequent job changes – something that was never really an option for me. The alternative: consulting.

The designer.
I had long had the vision of creating my own company – with clear values, a strong identity and an uncompromising commitment to quality and performance. The first milestone on this path was building up sound experience in software development and architecture. Freelance self-employment is the second step for me – my long-term goal is to set up my own company with my own team.

The student and teacher.
I love learning – and I love passing on my knowledge. Even at university, I really enjoyed teaching as a student assistant. Passing on knowledge, training employees and growing together is a dream come true for me. At the same time, you’re always learning yourself.
